So as not to startle you should you drop by I’ve been playing with the design of the site again. Honestly, it’s just what I do. I’m not even apologizing this time or claiming that this will be the last time for a long while. It never is the last time. I’ve said before this is my hobby and redesigning the site is what I do for fun.
Balancing Act
oh crap, I moved another pixel
White and Blue
Of course, this, Balance, will look a great deal like most of my designs of the last few years. At the very least the color scheme or lack thereof will be familiar. Monochrome, that’s just how I roll.
Flex
Unlike any previous design, Balance is put together completely with ems. By completely I mean it. Even the borders are sized in ems. Go ahead and resize your browser text size, up or down everything resizes. There literally isn’t a pixel dimension in the entire site.
Why? I just felt like it. And really, why not?
Expression Engine
There is some clever use of Expression Engine going on here. I’ll save the details for a later post but needless to say EE sites tend to have similar URL structures. If I didn’t tell you’d never be able to tell this was an EE site thanks to some (I think) clever PHP hackery I worked up.
Done?
The site is functional as is but it’s not complete. Don’t bother checking the Colophon. It leads to nowhere. I’ll work on that later. Really, the colophon is meant to describe how a book was built. I can’t write that till the book is finished. Also, I may or may not bring back tags or comments. Haven’t decided yet.
For the moment the front page is one post showing the opening paragraph followed by three recent posts showing a one line summary for each. Everything is available in the archives and you can search the whole site as well from the archives page.
So, that’s that.
