This is just a quick follow-on to the post from yesterday on Sin City and other things. I was just at WalMart and picked up the 2-disc of 300{ref1}. Of course, it’s a big movie and they expect to sell many copies so the video section of the store is decked out with some propaganda for the film.

Like nothing you’ve ever seen!

That’s the blurb from some movie reviewer that is written in 72pt type on the side of the 300 display. Here’s the funny thing, in my own review some months back I compared 300 to both Sin City and Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. I would imagine that means the film is at least like something I have seen before.

That said, what’s wrong with being like something I’ve seen before? In fact, I went to see 300 in the theatre because it looked like it might be akin to Sin City and Troy. I enjoyed both of those films. It’s OK to not be 100% unique.

I had an English teacher in my senior year{ref2} that said, There are only thirteen types of stories in the English language. Chaucer wrote two of them. Shakespeare wrote the other eleven. See? It’s a losing battle then isn’t it? Unless, you’re James Joyce.
