TAGS will go here when I implement them

I keep wanting to write about Hillary and Barack and John. I keep wanting to cause I’m sure I could squeeze a decent post out of one or all three of them. I just haven’t yet. This might look like that post but it isn’t.

Dilemma

I can’t decide. Do I like one more than the other? No. I like them all equally well. For the first time in quite a while it feels like Democrats have more and better choices than we’ve ever had. I feel sorry for Republicans. Have you looked at the choices they have?

I’m not saying Republican candidates are jerks or something. I’m saying that to a Republican, Rudy, Mitt, and John McCain can’t be the best options they’ve ever seen. I could take a few speeches from any of them and clip a word or two here and there and presto chango they’re Democrats. Anyone else noticed how liberal the leading Republicans are? That can’t be a fun time for the Republican base.

Liberals Ascendant

I was listening to Meet the Press last night and they quoted some statistic from some poll that said something along the lines of more and more Democrats now identifying themselves as liberal. Anyone else remember how being called a liberal was considered a slur? I do. I felt a tad alone during those dark days.

Now, being a liberal is the fab thing to be. It’s like a new purse or something. Cynical? Fine. But I’m glad we’re starting to get good press again. Being able to count the liberals you know on… well, you’re the only liberal, is disheartening.

Now, even the Republicans want to be liberals. Usually a Republican is trying to tone down the anti- rhetoric while winking that they’re really much tougher on gays (or whatever). Now? Not only are there photos of Rudy in a dress but Mitt is from Massachusetts. They can’t decide what to do.

A Republican watching this doesn’t know whether to shit or go blind. They just hope Fred Thompson gets in the race quick. Of course, Thompson’s claims to fame are a recurring role on Law & Order, a spot in a Tom Clancy movie, and a seat in the back investigating Watergate. Oh, and he was a Senator for one term from Tennessee that never did anything in office and considers leaving the Senate the best thing he did while he was in D.C.

The Campaigns

picking and choosing among the candidates

Which Liberal?

I still can’t decide. I like Hillary (there, I said it). Barack doesn’t look to be a bad fellow (a little too quick with a decision, maybe). John is working himself into quite the poor and working man’s hero (and doing ’08 the way he wanted to in ’04).

There are differences of method between each of the top 3 Dems but I can’t decide which I like better. John Edwards thoughts on poverty and healthcare are very appealing and he’s managed to push the overall issues in the ’08 election. He seems like the sort of fellow you’d enjoy sitting down with and talking to.

Obama has a fresh aspect to him, he’s the new kid. He thinks that politics ought to work a better way to better work for the people. Admirable. Refreshing. Is he still a kid? Hay is made about his remarks concerning talking to the Axis of Evil leaders but it’s a good point. You don’t say what you’re going to do when dealing with people who’d prefer you dead. You have to leave options open (even the nuclear option). I know that, why didn’t Barack?

Hillary? She’s gotten a bum rap, plain and simple. There are people that hate her as a matter of course. She’s been demonized more than Hester Prynne. That said, I think she’d make a great Madam President.

Wide Open

I won’t make a decision today. I probably won’t make a decision until the convention rolls around next summer. Day to day I’m a flip flopper on Hillary, John, and Barack. I like all three and I think each has the makings of a great president. If not in ’08 then in ’16. Time will tell.
